In-use positioning of detector and coil
Device Height
Adjust the Magnetar 9000 detector to your body height while standing upright with your arm relaxed, keeping the search coil about 5 cm (2") above the ground. Proper height reduces false signals from metals on your body or shoes. Getting it wrong causes the device to pick up those metals and produce misleading readings.
Correct Sweeping
Search Coil Angle: The Magnetar 9000 coil must be held flat/parallel to the ground, not tilted at an angle, for accurate detection.
Sweep Pattern: Swing the Magnetar 9000 detector side to side while keeping the coil consistently parallel to the surface throughout the entire sweep. Raising or dipping the coil at the ends of each sweep (a common mistake) leads to inaccurate results.

The correct handling of the detector during usage, including correct method of sweeping can also be found in the official Nokta Magnetar Manual, on page 17.
