A New Standard in Metal Detecting Audio
XP has introduced a major advancement in metal detecting audio with the release of its new XP Stereo Headphones. Designed specifically for use with the XP DEUS II, this new headphone range delivers a true stereo listening experienceβmoving beyond the traditional mono audio used by most metal detectors.
By providing more detailed audio feedback, XP stereo headphones help detectorists make faster, more accurate decisions in the field.
Why Stereo Audio Improves Metal Detecting Performance
Audio interpretation is one of the most important skills in metal detecting. Every dig decision is influenced by what you hear through your headphones. Traditional mono audio limits the amount of information conveyed, while stereo metal detecting audio offers improved clarity, depth, and target separation.
XPβs stereo implementation is not a generic audio feature. It has been engineered specifically for metal detecting applications, allowing users to better interpret signals and gain a measurable advantage in real-world detecting conditions.
XP DEUS II Firmware Compatibility
The new XP Stereo Headphones are fully compatible with DEUS II firmware version 3.10. When used with this firmware, audio is currently delivered in mono, duplicated to both earsβmatching the performance of standard XP headphones.
However, these headphones are stereo-ready. Their full capabilities will be unlocked with the upcoming DEUS II firmware version 4, scheduled for release in January. Once installed, detectorists will experience true stereo audio without the need to purchase a new metal detector.
This firmware-based upgrade reflects XPβs ongoing commitment to extending the value of existing equipment through innovation rather than unnecessary hardware replacement.
Important: To use XP Stereo Headphones before the release of firmware version 4, your DEUS II, WS6 Master, or compatible system must be running firmware version 3.10. Earlier firmware versions are not supported.
Key Features of XP Stereo Headphones
Stereo Identification (ST Models)
All stereo models are clearly marked with βSTβ, making it easy to distinguish stereo headphones from mono versions at a glance.
USB-C Charging and Updates
The new headphone range features a USB-C charging port, providing faster charging, improved durability, and support for future firmware updates.
Modular and Replaceable Headband
XPβs modular design allows the headband to be replaced easily in the event of wear or accidental damage. Users can simply remove the puck and attach it to a new headband at minimal cost.
Using Third-Party Headphones with Stereo Audio
Detectorists who prefer using their own headphones via a 3.5 mm jack can still benefit from stereo audio by using the new XP D099 Stereo Adapter.
While similar in appearance to the original adapter, the D099 stereo adapter includes an additional connector that enables independent left and right audio channels. This adapter features three pins, which is essential for stereo functionality.
Using the original (non-stereo) adapter will not provide stereo sound, even after installing firmware version 4.
XP Stereo Headphone Models Available
XP offers three stereo headphone options to accommodate different detecting styles:
-
WS6 ST:Β Compact and versatile
-
WSA ST:Β Lightweight and wireless
-
XL Stereo Headphones:Β Over-ear design for maximum comfort
All models are stereo-ready and fully compatible with the DEUS II platform.
